Laser vein treatment
For veins that are too small to be effectively addressed with a needle, Dr. Carr may recommend laser vein treatment. Our FDA-cleared laser device generates wavelengths of light that are absorbed by the pigmentation in spider veins, without harm to the skin. Energy from the laser causes targeted veins to react and eventually disappear through the body’s natural healing processes.
Laser vein treatment is well tolerated, and there is no downtime. You may return to normal activities right after your appointment. Every patient is different, but typically two to five laser therapy sessions are needed, each lasting about 15 minutes.
Dr. Carr uses the vascular laser for facial spider veins, and to clean up all visible remnants after larger spider veins are removed from the legs with sclerotherapy.
Ensuring you get the right care
Vein treatment options offered at Carr Dermatology are non-surgical and minimally-invasive. No anesthetic is needed, so there is virtually no risk of drug interaction. Most reasonably healthy women and men can be candidates for sclerotherapy or laser therapy. However, the doctor conducts a thorough health assessment to determine if existing medical conditions, or medications you currently take, could cause complications. While both of these methods are very safe, she takes time to explain possible side effects and aftercare to help you make an informed decision. If you wish to have varicose veins removed, Dr. Carr will provide referral to a reputable vein center.
